Some highlights include charcuterie, fresh milk, wild mushrooms, delicious cheeses, and wines. Getting there is a picturesque drive if you go along the coast on Route Built-in , this bucolic village is filled with rolling pastures, family-run boulangeries, and turn-of-the-century farmhouses.

During the summer, the village has something for everyone. Activities include horseback riding, hiking, fishing, sailing, swimming, and kayaking.

This petite village sits along the St. Lawrence River and the Saguenay Fjord and is home to only residents. Aside from having a fun name, these mountains form a part of the Appalachian Mountains and are a must for any skiing fanatics.

Just be prepared for a longer drive, the Chic-Choc Mountains lie about 6 hours north-east of Quebec City. If you want the best view, aim to be there at sunrise and have your camera ready for an epic sight. If you plan, you can even book overnight stays at some of them! This small group of islands is accessible via plane, ferry, or cruise. You should hit up Havre-Aubert. Throughout the summer they have nautical excursions, golfing, kayaking, hiking, cycling, kite surfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, and motorcycle tours.

You can also visit historic La Grave to see historic fishing buildings, a maritime museum, an aquarium, and lots of shops and cafes. The quickest way to get there is to fly, which works out to be about 9 hours of travel time from Montreal. This is another stop that takes a ton of time to get to—almost 13 hours to be exact. Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean is the ideal place to enjoy nautical sports. In addition to the magnificent sandy beaches, families enjoy visiting the wild zoo, the historic village of Val-Jalbert and the Cap Jaseux Adventure Park. In winter, the large amount of snow received favours snowshoeing, downhill skiing and backcountry skiing, with frequent powder snow. Along the route, discover the history of New France thanks to several points of interest.

Further north, the region extends to the boreal forest in the famous La Mauricie National Park, where you can appreciate stunning landscapes. Jeff Frenette Photography. Place-Royale is home to the first trading post and settlement established by Samuel de Champlain in I love sitting on the steps of the church, sipping chocolat chaud and watching the crowds of tourists walking around, some with guides, and many with phones raised to snap pictures of the 18th-century Normandy-style stone buildings.

The Royal Battery is at the junction of Rue Saint-Pierre and Rue Sous le fort, and is a quiet place to relax under the shade of a tree. Down the street from here on Rue Saint-Pierre is the site of the first woman-owned business in New France, operated by Marie-Anne Barbel from Behind this walking street is an alley of wooden staircases and walkways called Rue Sous le cap. In the 18th century, the waters of the Saint-Lawrence river licked the back of the houses here now facing Rue du Sault-au-Matelot and residents had to build sheds against the cliff instead.

There's a good chance that you haven't even heard of most of the places on this list. The great thing about Quebec is that there are so many locations that are fantastic for an escape and don't require you to travel too far. Some of the spots are ideal for a day trip, while other places require you to drive a little further, making them great for a weekend or week escape from the city.

Exploring Quebec has become one of my favourite things to do, especially on hot summer days and of course, weekends when I'm looking to go on an adventure. The beauty of our province goes beyond the common spots like Quebec City and Mont Tremblant, which is why the following spots are worth exploring during your next road trip.
